AW14 Trend Alert: Updated Seventies

If there's one trend this Autumn Winter that I am fully on board with it's the updated seventies. Every season designers pull inspiration from previous decades, but it seems to be the nineties and the sixties that pop up the most frequently. However, for the first time in a long while the new season is all about the seventies. This time it's less 'vintage bohemian' which is often what we associate with the decade, and instead it's focusing on the flared jeans, floppy hats, and retro colour palettes - but with a 2014 update.

Seventies style meets modern tailoring in the form of boyfriend cut camel coats and wide leg palazzo trews. Combine that with shades of rusty burnt orange and mustard yellow and you've hit the nail on the head. Another take on the trend is to pair your dark wash flared jeans with your favourite leather jacket for that seventies look but with an edgy twist.

So, what do you think of the updated seventies trend? Will you be shunning your skinny jeans in favour of flares this season? Let me know!

Workwear 101

ZARA shirt & necklace
H&M trousers & bag
NEW LOOK shoes & cuff
ASOS sunglasses

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I'm currently doing some work experience in the marketing department at my old college. Having worked in retail for the past four years (alongside studying for my degree) I'm no stranger to the work place, but what I am a stranger to is the big wide world of "business attire".

Being a fan of masculine styles I luckily already had a few pieces in my wardrobe suitable for the office. For my first day I followed the lovely Megan's fashion equation of 2 masculine pieces + 1 feminine piece to create a chic workwear look. I opted for my tapered pinstripe trousers with a boyfriend shirt tucked in and added some pretty strappy sandals to finish off the look.

So, what do you think? Would you hire me to work in your office?

Scandinavia | Travel Snaps

A little glimpse at my adventures in Scandinavia! In case you didn't know, I recently spent 10 days traveling with my brother starting in Copenhagen and then hopping over the bridge to Sweden where we traveled Malmo, Lund and finally Gothenburg.

We stayed in hostels half the time and Airbnb apartments for the rest. It was definitely an experience and we met a lot of really interesting people from all over the world from fellow Brits, to Australians, Canadians and Italians. Overall, I had a great time. Copenhagen was by far my favourite city and I would love to go back again one day as we only had a couple of days there and there's definitely a lot more to see!

I didn't take a 'real' camera with me as we were backpacking and I didn't want to take anything too heavy or that would be likely to get stolen. All these pictures were shot on my humble iPhone, but I think they turned out pretty well! I hope you liked this little peak at my travels. Have any of you been to Scandinavia?

TOPSHOP pleather shorts
NEXT mules
NEW LOOK cuff*

After a ten day trip across Scandinavia and a long break from my laptop, it feels pretty good to be blogging again. I wore this white tailored blazer with my trusty pleather shorts and fave mules out yesterday for a long overdue date night, adding a bright orange clutch bag for a pop of colour to brighten up the otherwise monochrome look.

Lavish Alice also do a white skort that goes perfectly with the blazer to create a sharp tailored short suit. The blazer on it's own is a very versatile piece and can be thrown over pretty much anything to smarten up the look! I'm actually starting a work experience placement this week and I'm sure the blazer will serve me well. It will be my first venture into 'workwear' so maybe I'll debut some of my attempts here on the blog. Maybe.
